4 Easy Ways to Encourage Peer-to-Peer Fundraising

Your trusty annual mailing isn’t capturing the attention of new donors and it’s a constant challenge to stand out in an increasingly crowded digital world. How can you break through the noise to reach new donors and increase funds? Furthermore, how can you encourage your supporters to ask their family and friends to donate to your cause?

It’s time to try online peer-to-peer (p2p) fundraising!

Peer-to-peer fundraising is a form of crowdfunding that encourages your supporters to reach out to their own networks and fundraise on your behalf. Through p2p fundraising you can reach a larger, more diverse pool of potential donors. Getting started and encouraging participation is not as hard as you might think – here are a few tips to get the ball rolling.

1. Choose your platform carefully

There are many different platforms that offer crowdfunding and p2p fundraising capabilities. It can be done through Facebook, Classy, and Crowdrise, to name a few. Each comes with their own set of rules, fees, perks and downsides so, it’s best to weigh your options carefully. First, start by seeing if your current donation platform offers the capabilities for p2p fundraising. If not, explore what is available keeping in mind any fees and the ease of use for your supporters.

2. Find your people

Identify stakeholders within your organization who care passionately about your cause and can help raise funds. They may already be fundraising, but the key is to get them to take their efforts online. Ask employees, board members, volunteers, and friends to join your campaign. 3. Make it EASY

Once someone agrees to fundraise, it’s your job to make it easy for them to achieve success. Encourage the fundraising team to use these assets, but also tell their own stories because personal stories told from the heart move others to donate and volunteer.

Don’t forget to showcase the hard work of your fundraisers! Once they start outreach, share their efforts with others on social media or in your email newsletter. Spread their story far and wide to further increase donations.
